Ivano-Frankivsk National Medical University is a fully accredited higher educational institution which succesfully applies ECTS credit system to all educational programmes.
In our University, 1 ECTS credit corresponds to 30 hours, the workload of one academic year is 60 ECTS credits. The total amount of the student workload varies depending on the educational programme as the duration of each slightly differs:
- Junior Bachelor (Orthopedic Dentistry, Nursing or Pharmacy) durates 2-4 years depending on the specialty;
- Bachelor's Degree (Ergotherapy) durates 4 years;
- Master's Degree (Dentistry, Medicine, Pharmacy or Pediatrics) durates 5-6 years depending on the specialty;
- PhD (basing on previously obtained Master's degree in Dentistry, Medicine, Pharmacy or Pediatrics) usually durates 4 years.
Each academic year consists of 2 semesters. One academic year lasts 40 weeks and includes at least 60 credits, the academic year has 1800-1960 academic hours.
Medical students also undergo training, industrial practice in 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 courses, project work and final assessment depending on the specialty.
The completion of at least 60 credits per an academic year is mandatory.
Each academic subject is evaluated in marks which are converted into national grades and ECTS grade.
Besides, every student studying "Medicine" is obliged to pass Standardized Test Exams "Step 1" and "Step 2" (Licensed integrated exam of the Ministry of Healthcare of Ukraine) that assess the level of professional competence of a graduate and Practice-Based Exams that assess graduate’s ability to solve typical tasks of Physician in the conditions that are similar to professional medical environment.
So, in Ivano-Frankivsk National Medical University we use the basic principles of the ECTS credit system educating the Ukrainian and international students which helps to build a transparent and fair educational system for every learner.
