At my university (in the Caribbean), an undergraduate History course for example is worth 3-credits and is arranged as follows:
- 2 hours of lectures per week
- 1 hour of tutorial (small group presentation/discussions) per week
The general rule of thumbs is: for every 1 credit, the student has 3 hours of work each week for a full semester session. In in other words, a student in a 3-credit course should expect to spend nine hours a week on the course in terms of in class and out of classroom activities.
